twenty-twenty fore!

i tiptoed into 2024 with trepidation. the shell-shock from the past two presidential elections + the pandemic + the insecurities that come with entering your seventh decade + the anticipation of yet another divisive presidential election was just about too much.

a year of prozac and therapy helped me to finally find some light after clawing my way through the dark tunnel of depression, and I had been worried – genuinely worried, that exposure to the rhetoric, social media, news media and sound bites would drag me back into the dark.

the saving grace has been the Bible study my wife and i started attending in january. it has reminded me that even when it doesn't look like it, GOD is working

also, weirdly, my family has had an incredibly busy year. my wife has had multiple, back-to-back health concerns this year. my son is on tour across the country doing what he loves. my daughter is headed to graduate school. a major announcement at work has consumed my thoughts, and another major announcement is on the horizon.

consumption with those things hasn't given me much time to worry about what people are saying about their politics, and i am grateful.

the apostle paul writes that we should take our thoughts captive. i think the first four and a half months of the year has helped me to see why that's so important. i've hardly thought about the thing i was most worried about, because there have been so many other, more important things to think about.

certainly, not all of those are good things, but they did keep me from falling into the political sinkhole. i also have found some moments of clarity that have helped me get back to work on one of the reasons i started this website: my books.

in a classic case of burying the lead, i've been working pretty dang hard to get my first novel published. now, finally, it's happening.

pretty soon i should have a publication date and information on how you can get a copy. there are still some logistics to work out, but i'll be pursuing some opportunities to stage a book signing or two, an opportunity to buy the book from this website and maybe even the ability to contact me for signings or readings.

so, follow my blog and follow me on social media to stay in the know. this is the realization of a dream 40 years in the making, and i can't wait to share it with you.
